The Parent/Guardian Interview

A licensed psychologist will meet with caregivers either via telehealth or in our office to go over your child’s history and your current concerns. This meeting typically lasts 90 minutes.

The In-Person Testing

This session is at our office in Rockville, Maryland. A parent or guardian needs to be present along with the child. The session can last between 2 and 5 hours.

The Feedback Session

During this appointment, the psychologist will review the results of the testing, any diagnosis that is made, and the recommendations for your child. You will have lots of time to ask questions during this appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our caring team compiled answers to frequently asked questions regarding ABA therapy to help you better understand the diagnosis and treatment process

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a scientifically validated approach for treating those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ABA is the most widely used intervention endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, National Academies of Science, and the Surgeon General as the best practice for individuals with autism. ABA therapy at Behavioral Framework aims to increase behaviors and skills that promote learning and independence. ABA can improve language, communication, social, and adaptive skills such as toilet training, dressing, feeding, and much more. We work closely with your child and family while collaborating with teachers and other therapists to provide the most holistic treatment model.

ABA is the only research-supported treatment for improving the behavior of children with autism. The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 identified Applied Behavior Analysis as the only scientific-based practice that meets the qualifications of reliably yielding positive results when applied in the approved manner. Plus, ABA is the only therapy for autism endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General. According to The National Academic Press to achieve the best results, ABA therapy should begin as soon as the diagnosis is received. Talk to your child’s doctors about ABA therapy.

How do I know if ABA is right for my child?

My child has a diagnosis; what should I do next?

Start by calling our office. During this call, we begin by gathering information about your child to understand better how we can best support you. Then, an assessment is scheduled. We will also inform you of any required paperwork and verify your insurance.

My child was already tested at school. Do we still need an evaluation?

The process for getting services in the community is separate from the process at school. However, the psychologist will sometimes ask to speak to your child’s teacher to understand how they are doing in the school setting. Unfortunately, having a diagnosis or IEP at school does not automatically translate to getting services outside of school. Your child will still benefit from a psychological evaluation to make sure that anything that is needed medically (such as ABA therapy) can be provided outside of school. Please let the psychologist know in your first session if your child has had an evaluation at school. We will be able to use that information as we work with your family.

Our psychologists offer comprehensive evaluations, which means that we evaluate your child’s cognitive, social-emotional, behavioral, and adaptive functioning. Many of the children we see have difficulties with social skills, paying attention, learning, and behavior. Our specialty at Behavioral Framework is working with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities such as Autism and ADHD, but the psychologist will tailor your child’s assessment based on the information you give about your child’s specific strengths and needs.

What diagnoses will the psychologist be looking for?

It is very important to us that the evaluation process is as efficient as possible. We know that many families have waited a long time for their child’s evaluation. The time from the first session until the final feedback session is usually approximately one month. During that time, you may have 3 or 4 appointments with our team of clinicians. For instance, your intake session takes place in Week 1, two testing sessions take place in Week 2 and Week 3, and the feedback session is held in Week 4.

How long will the entire testing process take?
